Motivated by wanting to protect people from the harsh British weather, the young Thomas Burberry initially began designing with a pointed focus on outerwear at the brand's onset in 1856. Drawing up ideas for military personnel first and foremost, the classic Burberry trench coat was realized, lined in a signature check pattern.

Eventually, Burberry expanded into the world of high-fashion as well. Practical, yet sophisticated, the luxury label has stayed true to its utilitarian roots throughout their global expansion, still crafting the same beloved trench coats in addition to bags, shoes, accessories, and even beauty. Currently at the helm of the Burberry fashion house as chief creative officer sits Riccardo Tisci, the former creative director for Givenchy. This new era of the label presented an updated logo and a contemporary abstract print, suggesting that Burberry has only gotten better with age and shows no signs of stopping.
