Everything You Need to Know About the Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote
It seems like it has been around forever, but the Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote was only introduced in 2007. With its endless iterations, the everyday tote has become one of Louis Vuitton’s all-time most successful and best-selling bags. It is now considered a true classic.
The Neverfull was designed to be a practical tote that is able to hold everything you need. The shoulder straps are the perfect length to carry on your shoulder, and the style comes in three sizes ranging from smallest to largest; PM, MM, GM.
The Neverfull comes in the popular Monogram Canvas, Damier Ebene and Damier Azur geometric patterns, as well as many colors of durable, textured Epi Leather. The Neverfull Monogram MM is often used as a canvas for limited editions and artist collaborations.
Even though there are lots of variations, the classic Monogram and Damier patterns are the most popular. All bags feature a printed lining, based on a stock LV print. The Monogram originally came with a beige lining, but more recently other colourful linings have been added including Piment, Mimosa, Fuschia, Pivoine and Rose Ballerina. The word “damier” is French for checkerboard, a print that was first introduced in 1998, on LV’s one-hundred-year anniversary.
It may surprise you that the Monogram and Damier Neverfull styles are not actually made of leather. Rather, these are crafted from a treated or coated canvas fabric and trimmed with untreated Italian leather called Vachetta (Cow Hide). The Damier Ebene is trimmed with PVC coated Vachetta.
The Neverfull is actually a very strong bag despite incredibly delicate looking straps. The GM size is designed to carry up to 200 pounds (90 kilograms)!
It’s also possible to adjust the bag's size and aesthetic by cinching in the sides! There are side ties that allow you to make it smaller or larger to fit your needs. An interior connector can be used to bring the bag's shape further in while adding extra security.
Perhaps the most incredible hidden gem of information on this bag is that the Neverfull was originally designed to be reversible with the contrasting interior. Though most people don't wear it this way, it's fun to note there's another way to wear your favorite bag!
Another important note for the Louis Vuitton Neverfull totes is that they are all initially sold with a matching pochette to help keep you organized on the go! Each pochette also includes a Vachetta, or PVC coated Vachetta for the Damier Ebene models, strap that can easily attach to a D-ring located inside the tote. Extremely versatile, the pochette can also double as a wristlet!
Finally, it’s important to note that the resale value of this bag is close to the current retail price. The Neverfull is extremely popular and is among the more reasonably priced in Louis Vuitton’s collection, making it a smart choice if you want to start investing in designer bags. Popular on the secondary market in its own right, the pochette can even be sold separately from the tote, making the Neverfull that much more affordable! If you can snag a pre-owned Neverfull in very good condition at a couple of hundred off the retail price, then all the better.
